Design Statment

Design permeates every part of my life, and that’s the way I like it. I find inspiration in everything from nature to architecture and beyond. I thrive to emulate the seemingly perfect construct of the world around me, and in doing so am meticulous in my construction and execution of projects. My intent thus far has been to develop a selection of work which will showcase both my design and illustration abilities. Indeed, bridging these two categories in my artistic life has been quite the challenge. In my last semester and following career I know this will not become easier; however I hope to acquire and develop a skill set which will allow me to effectively interconnect these two subjects. I also hope to use this skill set in the complicated process of merging a client’s needs with my own unique aesthetic and creative process.

Responsible living as well as design practices and techniques are very important to me. Through involvement with groups such as the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) and recycling programs I hope to have a more positive impact on the eco system, attempting to tip the balance scale on my excessive use of resources such as paper and toner in a responsible direction. Currently I operate almost exclusively in the digital world. I only print when it is required, and always make sure the design is complete before doing so. I practice design along the lines of the English carpentry proverb “Measure twice, cut once”.
